Taco balls was once very popular, long queues for them were often seen in pasar malams (temporary night markets). We hardly see them in retail stalls in the past. Because taco balls appeared at every pasar malam (easily available), the craze for taco balls lowered a little. Now, selling taco balls at pasar malams is not a very good business because we can find taco balls in almost every shopping mall.
Taco balls revived with more creations.
Not just filled with octopus, we can get taco balls filled with chili tuna, chicken ham, cheese and etc. The original taco balls had teriyaki and mayonnaise sauce drizzled over them and topped with fish flakes. Wow Tako has more toppings and they cost more. With an additional of $0.30 to the normal $2.50 for 3 taco balls, add nacho cheese to your taco balls. And it was a great combination, the taco balls were delicious. The taco balls weren't so exceptionally good but the sauces were the boon companions. I remembered the taco balls I had at Mongkok, HongKong (forgotten the name but it is very popular) had wasabi sauce added and they tasted great!
