181. Cafe Cartel

Many eateries moved into the heartlands, like New York New York at Lot One, Kuishinbo at Jurong Point and also Cafe Cartel at Bukit Panjang Plaza.
Most of the eateries had "Please wait to be seated" sign outside but Cafe Cartel's was "Please find your own seats inside". I am not sure if it is the same for the other outlets but I felt it was pretty weird. What if there is a queue, then wouldn't quarrels over seating happen? As far as a world class city Singapore is known for, I'm not surprised that such quarrels will happen.
Cafe Cartel is all ready to welcome the festive season which is a month's away. There is the symbolic tree at a corner and sparkling adornments of Christmas that fall from the ceiling.

Free flow of french loaf(-ves) at Cafe Cartel. I have to agree that not everything that comes free is of inferior quality.
The bread was soft on the interior and crispy on the exterior. It wasn't hard on the exterior like Delifrance's (because I don't feel my teeth going to be pull out from biting the bread).
But fruit jam wasn't offered. :(
Root Beer Float @$4.20
Remember A&W, the fast food chain that was so popular about a decade ago? A&W and their root beer float and of course, the signature curly fries. I wonder why the other fast food chains didn't offer root beer.
When I saw root beer float on the menu, I decided to order 1. It just brings back the good old memories spent at A&W.

Oxtail Stew @$16.20

It was yum yum yummy. 4 pieces of oxtail. The addition of baby carrots and half a big onion made the stew sweet. It wasn't too oily. Some people feared the musky smell but there wasn't for this. It went very well with plain rice and also the bread!

St Louis Pork Ribs @$13.80

Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. St Louis pork ribs is 1 of Cafe Cartel's signature dishes. It is really $13.20 for that big slab of pork ribs!
Smeared with black pepper and chili sauce on the ribs, french fries and coleslaw as the side dish. This dish came as a great deal for ribs lovers.
The black pepper wasn't too significant as it was covered by the chili sauce. The chili sauce wasn't too spicy. Instead, it was more of sweet. I felt if the black pepper taste is more significant and add some juice from the kaffir lime or lemon, the ribs would have taste better. As the ribs were oven baked, some of the meat juice was lost in the cooking process. Fatty linings(oil/lard) under the rib bone made the meat not so dry. I have waited at least 30 minutes for this dish. But to many Singaporeans, good food is worth the wait.
Total bill came up to be $37.85 for 2 pax with a 10% on UOB cards.
