256. Yoshoku Kitchen

Ask for the tea-time menu from 2.30pm and you will be surprised with the great deal you have gotten for yourself! All the food were priced less than $10 except for sashimi. Yoshoku Kitchen is located at the decidedly unglamorous confines of Serene Centre, so it is not surprised that many have passed by not noticing it. But, if you know Island Creamery, you will see Yoshoku Kitchen because it's just next door!

Japanese plum soda @$2.50
Smash the plums, add the soda and you have it!

Kani Karage @$5

It was one of the best soft shell crabs that I have tasted so far. It wasn't oil laden. Crispy on the exterior and fleshy on the interior. I must say the soft shell crab must be pretty well-fed. Dipping sauce was a tad too salty. Would have been better if the dipping sauce was made with a tinge of spiciness and sweetness.

Tofu Chiizu Mentai @$5
Silken tofu on the inside. Coated with starch flour and mentai on the exterior. The exterior was more of chewy instead of crispy. Not to my liking. Look! It's pretty oily.
Mentai Spaghetti @$5.50
Mentai and bacon. Delicious but bacon is too rich in fats. What a way to put it! The mentai made the spaghetti pinkish. It was alluring. Portion was just nice. However, as the oil from Bacon was a little excessive, it made me grow sick of the spaghetti before I could finish it.

Omu Curry Rice @$5
Curry gravy was tasty and of the right thickness. It wasn't too spicy nor sweet. Omelette wrapped the rice nicely. Added a potato cut into halves and a piece of carrot. Though not much of ingredients but for $5 a plate, it was still very cheap. The only flaw being they did not use short grain rice. As such, this omu rice lacked the oomph.

Pork Katsu @$3

A $3 extra for topping the katsu to the omu curry rice. Thinly breaded and fried crispy on the exterior. Thankfully, it wasn't oily at all. The chef's good with deep frying!

Kanai Sara @$3.50
4 in 1 dessert. The rice dumpling coated with red bean paste was a hot one. The pink(sakura) and green(matcha) daifuku were cold desserts. The matcha daifuku was good. Chewy and soft. Sakura daifuku was a little harder. I didn't quite like the sakura taste. Overall, it was not a very wow plate of dessert, doesn't appeal to gourmands in search of fancy desserts. Just mediocre. But at least it was cheap enough to satisfy one's sweet tooth.
Overall bill worked out to be approximately $38 for 2 pax. Food is good and cheap. A good place for Japanese food and not just desserts at tea-time. They have set lunches which were reasonably priced during lunch hours too.
